Vadnagar - A town cast in history

Vadnagar is an ancient city in the state of Gujarat in India. It is one of the few places in the world which can boast of continuous human inhabitation over a period of more than 4500 years of human history. The city falls under Mehsana district of Gujarat and is located about 112 Km. NE of Ahmedabad. The town appears to be situated on a mound at a height and it's believed that mound consist of layers of settlements built and destroyed since ancient times. Thus the present city sits on 4500 years of historical and archeological treasure trove. The recent excavations by department of archeology of Gujarat State, has established that settlements were there during Buddha's time. The town is mentioned in ancient texts like Skanda Purana and Mahabharata. It is believed that seventh century Chinese traveler Hsuan-Tsang visited Vadnagar, known as Anandpur at that time, twice.
